Log#1: Bhool Bhulaiya 3

Hello Blog,

Happy Diwali!

This Diwali weekend brings an exciting box office showdown in India, with two major releases going head-to-head: Ajay Devgn's high-octane action thriller Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, a horror-comedy starring Kartik Aaryan under the direction of Anees Bazmee.

Bollywood has been buzzing with developments over the past month. From Jigra’s massive flop and the ensuing ticketing scandal to celebrities focusing more on meaningful partnerships with directors and selecting better scripts to build a strong portfolio, there’s a clear attempt to decode what Indian audiences truly want.

I recently watched Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and here’s my review:

Casting of Tripti Dimri

Known for her cult-followed roles in films like Laila Majnu, Tripti Dimri has finally made her mark on the big screen. She’s had a stellar year, especially after the release of Animal, but her overexposure—and unfortunate cosmetic surgery—was hard to miss. Her perpetually raised eyebrows were a noticeable distraction. In Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, her character seems to exist mainly for the songs, with subtle hints of sexualization in her portrayal. Speaking of the songs, they were long and felt quite unnecessary.

Visual Style Borrowed from Stree

Just as Stranger Things uses light blue and red visuals to establish its eerie universe, Bollywood’s horror-comedy genre follows a similar pattern. With Stree 2 released just two months ago, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 seems to have borrowed not only the same color palette but even similar costume styles.

Plot

The story has some intriguing twists, but the way information is presented can be confusing. My mom kept asking questions about plot points that had already been explained, which wasn’t due to lack of attention but rather the film’s rapid shifts in focus. Key plot details were often glossed over, making it easy to miss crucial moments.

Final Verdict

It’s an enjoyable, lighthearted watch, and the main cast—Vidya Balan, Kartik Aaryan, and Madhuri Dixit—deliver solid performances. For a fun, no-brainer movie experience, this one is worth a shot. I’d give it a 3/5.
